Honorary consulates have less competences than embassies and consulates (general). Honorary consuls do not always have the Belgian nationality or speak the official languages of Belgium. You should therefore always contact the Embassy of Belgium in Abuja first.

The Belgian Honorary consulate in Lagos has less competences than the Embassy of Belgium in Abuja. You should therefore always contact the Embassy in Abuja first. The Honorary consul’s main responsibility is to provide assistance to fellow countrymen and women in distress and to help the Embassy with practical issues when it provides consular services to Belgian citizens in Lagos. However, the Honorary consul in Lagos is not authorized to issue visas and (provisional) passports or to legalize any documents.
