All applicants are strongly advised to submit their visa application(s) at least one (1) month before the proposed travel date.

Where, when and how can you submit a visa application?

For easy and fast processing of your visa application, the application needs to be completed online at Visa On Web. The form obtained must be printed and submitted at the 'Visa Application Centre' (VAC). The address as well as all other information can be found on TLScontact.com/visa/ng

Diplomatic and official passport holders can apply directly at the Embassy during normal opening hours. Check opening hours on this page

See also the representation's tables at point 6 below

How much is the handling fee (cost for processing your visa application)?

The handling fee is paid in cash in Nigerian Naira at the bank teller counter at the Visa Application Center.

The handling fee for a short term stay visa (C) is the equivalent of 80 euro to be paid in cash in naira - TLScontact

For a long term stay visa (D) the handling fee is the equivalent of 180 euro to be paid in cash in naira - TLScontact

An additional contribution is required for the processing of certain visa D applications, in which case you will be requested to submit a proof of payment of this additional contribution as part of your visa application. If you are unable to do so at the time of the submission of your application, the application will be considered inadmissible.

Please note that the handling fee is to be paid at the time of the application. In case the applicant is exempt from paying the handling fee, he or she is not automatically exempted from paying the additional contribution.

There are certain exceptions to the standard fee of 80 euros for a C visa and 180 euro for a D visa. You can find all relevant information with this regard on the website of the immigration Office

If an external service provider submits the application (VAC), a service fee must be paid to the Visa Application Center. Persons that are exempt from the handling fee are not exempt from paying this service fee. For more information on the service fee, please check TLScontact. The VAC’s also offer some optional additional services like sms and courier services.

Required documents

You can download the visa application form and you will find all conditions on the FPS Home Affairs Immigration Office website, the only competent Belgian authority for the admittance, stay, residence and removal of foreigners.

You will also find the application form and the lists of required documents specific for Nigeria on TLScontact

Biometry - Visa Information System (VIS)

All visa applicants must appear in person, except children younger than 6 or 12 years, to have their 10 fingerprints and their photograph registered. These data are stored for 5 years in the VIS. The fingerprint registration procedure takes only a few minutes and identifies you with certainty as the sole licensee of the visa. It protects you against falsification or abuse of your identity (for instance, if your passport is stolen) and optimizes the border crossing. For more extensive information, we refer you to the European Union website

Information about specific (local) documents

You can get a medical certificate through one of the doctors certified by the embassy.

Checking the status of your visa application

Belgian embassies and consulates general must submit certain visa applications to the Immigration Office of the Federal Public Service Home Affairs for a final decision. It is the only competent authority with regards to the admittance, stay, residence and removal of foreigners from Belgian territory. In such a case, your file number will be communicated to you by the Embassy upon the submission of your file to the Immigration Office. If an external service provider submits the application (outsourcing), you may obtain this number by sending a mail to abuja.visa@diplobel.fed.be. From this stage onwards, the Immigration Office is the only authority to contact, if you wish to know the status of your application. With the file number you can inquire about the status of your application (Boulevard Pacheco,44,1000 Brussels, T: +32.2.793.80.00, infodesk@ibz.fgov.be). Using this number, you can also check the status of your visa application on the Immigration Office website

Once a decision has been taken, the Belgian Embassy will inform you personally.
